January Reflections – Creating Space, Choosing Peace

How are we already at the end of January? I’ll be honest—I love experiencing all four seasons, but this stretch of negative temperatures is not exactly my cup of tea. Still, the cold has forced us to slow down and stay inside a bit more, and in many ways, I think that pause has been a gift.

One of my intentions for 2026 is home, and that word has taken on a deeper meaning for me lately. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been on a serious purge: letting go of things that no longer fit my lifestyle, no longer serve a purpose, or simply haven’t been used. I’m fairly certain Goodwill is having a great month because of it, but more than anything, it has felt refreshing to create space again.

That focus on home led us to remodel an extra bedroom into my “stillroom,” a space that has quickly become one of my favorites. We also refreshed our primary bedroom with an accent wall and a new bed and frame. This season has reminded me how powerful it is to intentionally shape our surroundings, to create spaces that feel calm, grounding, and safe. There’s something deeply important about allowing your home to be a true sanctuary.

At the same time, this month has carried its share of heavier moments. We’ve experienced a few unexpected illnesses and losses within our circles, reminders that tomorrow is never guaranteed. Those moments have been quietly thought-provoking, gently pulling me back into presence and reinforcing what actually matters. They’ve been a reminder to slow down, to love harder, to say what needs to be said, and to stop postponing the things that make life feel meaningful.

Along with that reflection has come a noticeable shift in how I’m moving through the world. I’ve felt more clarity, more confidence, and far less tolerance for what doesn’t feel aligned. If something brings discomfort, drains energy, or simply doesn’t feel right, it’s become easier to say no, and surprisingly, that no feels freeing rather than heavy.

I’ve also become more protective of my time. Before committing to anything, I now pause to ask two simple questions: Is this a good use of my time? And does this align with my purpose in this season? That small habit has created more peace than I expected.

A Gentle Takeaway for This Season

If January has taught me anything, it’s this: we don’t need a major life event to start living more intentionally. We can choose presence now. We can create space now. We can stop waiting for the “right time” to prioritize what and who matters most.

Life isn’t guaranteed, but today is here. And sometimes the most meaningful shifts come from the quiet decisions to clear, protect, and choose what feels true.

If this month has felt heavy for you in any way, I hope this is your reminder that you’re allowed to move more slowly, choose differently, and build a life and a home that support who you are becoming.

With love,

📚 This Month’s Book Recommendation:

Leaders Eat Lastby Simon Sinek

Get Your Copy

Leaders Eat Last explores what real leadership looks like, not authority or ego, but service, trust, and humanity. Using examples from the military, business, and communities, Simon Sinek shows that the strongest teams aren’t driven by fear or titles, but by safety, belonging, and shared purpose.

The title comes from a Marine Corps practice where officers eat last, a simple but powerful reminder that leadership means putting others first.

What stood out most was the biology of leadership. When people feel safe and valued, oxytocin (the trust hormone) increases collaboration, creativity, and resilience. When they feel threatened, cortisol takes over, leading to stress, defensiveness, and disengagement. Strong leadership protects people from unnecessary stress, enabling them to do their best work.

Key takeaways:

✨ Leadership starts with empathy and listening

✨ People perform best when they feel safe, not scared

✨ Courage is shown in who you serve, not who serves you

This isn’t just a book for CEOs; it’s for parents, leaders, business owners, coaches, friends, and community builders. Leaders Eat Last reminds us that leadership isn’t a title, it’s a daily choice in how we show up for others.

If you’re looking for a book that blends heart with strategy, this one is worth your time.

February Small Win Challenge 💛

February doesn’t need big goals or dramatic changes. This month is about small wins; the quiet, consistent choices that add up over time.

Instead of asking “How do I change everything?” try asking:
“What’s one small thing I can do consistently this month?”

Your challenge:
Choose one small habit to focus on for February. Just one.

Examples:

  • Drink a full glass of water first thing each morning

  • Take a 10-minute walk

  • Write down one thing you’re grateful for each day

  • Go to bed 15 minutes earlier

  • Step away from your phone during meals

The goal isn’t perfection, it’s consistency. Miss a day? Start again the next. Small wins build confidence, momentum, and trust in yourself.

As February unfolds, notice how one small choice can shift your energy, focus, and outlook.
